Re: Christian Dailly
Terry-h,

It may have been apocryphal but the Souness quote doing the rounds at the time we signed him was even better. 'We had a disagreement. He thinks he can play football, and I don't'.

He tried and obviously he has his place in folklore due to that Ipswich game (in the same way I would argue Jonathan Spector does for the Man Utd cup game) but I still have horrible memories of him repeatedly walking back to the halfway line shaking his head after being completely bamboozled as to how he had conceded yet another goal. I'm sure he's a good lad but let's be fair he was quite shit.

Scotland v Israel tonight
Semi-final playoff to go to the Euros.

I expect Mr Dailly will be watching. He was a good lad for us.

Re: Christian Dailly
Not the best CH we've had and not the worst either, although most of my footballing memories of him are nightmares with the aforementioned Millwall away and also Preston away defeat where he attempted to clear a ball by heading it away even though the ball was only 2 feet off the round. Big plus side was the play off semi final goal.

I also respect that he took a voluntary pay cut after we got relegated. Something Lomas and Hutchison didn't do.

Last saw him playing in the Isla charity match at Aveley. He was the fittest person on the pitch by a country mile.

I’m sure they bought him on to pick up Gerrard in the cup final and I’m sure I got nearer to him than he did

Re: Christian Dailly
He fell out with Graeme Souness who sold him to West Ham with his parting words "Prove me wrong in selling you."

Sounds like Dailly failed...

Re: Christian Dailly
he started out as a centre forward and was for some considerable time the youngest ever goalscorer north of the border

I saw him score the winner for Scotland v Lithuania in Kaunas in 2006. A memorable day that. Food at half time no a burger or pie in site. Just charcoal grilled pork kebab.

Wait.

hang on a minute.

Are you daring to suggest that I let him shag my wife and Had this perm done on the basis of a massive lie?

Re: Christian Dailly
Daily was one of the worst players I've ever seen in c&b and my memory stretches back to early 80's.

I know that in the eyes of some he was sort of forgiven for his performances in the championship but even then they were no great shakes - just marginally more consistent and less catastrophic than in the Prem.

I wasn't a fan...no

And Dailly was shit. A symbol of the start of the decade (or two) of shit that followed on from the sale of Rio.

Re: Christian Dailly
Interesting to see the mention of Paintsill on here. I listened to an episode of the Peter Crouch podcast a while back (it's pretty decent at times), and Crouch tells a story as to how Paintsill is the biggest nutcase he'd ever played against.

I still wonder if he made a mistake with the name as he said he was playing at centre half for Fulham. He did play for Fulham I believe, but he was a right back wasn't he? Crouch said he was giving him some verbals when suddenly he completely changed and basically followed him around the pitch trying to break his legs.

The Fulham players were saying to him "what have you done?! he's a total nut job" etc etc

I can't see this being a true story, but I also don't remember seeing much of Panstil actually playing - would never have thought him a hard man/ nut job though?
